How the CPS test works

The click speed test measures how many times you can click your mouse in a set amount of time. It is dead simple to play and weirdly addictive once you start. Pick a duration, click as fast as you can until the timer runs out, and we hand you a score and a rank in an instant.

There is nothing to download and nothing to set up. Everything runs right here in your browser, so you can jump in, find out your clicks per second, and start chasing a better number straight away.

Behind the scenes we count every click from the moment you press the pad and divide it by the time on the clock. That gives you a clean clicks per second average you can trust, the same way gamers benchmark their aim or their typing speed. Run it as many times as you like, the result is fresh every single time.

Pick your time

Choose any duration from a quick 1 second sprint all the way up to the 100 second endurance run using the time selector above the click pad.

2

Start clicking

Your first click starts the timer. After that, just click as fast as you comfortably can. A live counter keeps track of your clicks and your current speed the whole way through.

See your score

The moment the timer hits zero we work out your clicks per second, give you a rank, and drop in a few tips if we think you have a faster run in you.

What is a CPS test?

CPS is short for clicks per second. A CPS test, which people also call a click speed test, is a quick little game that counts how often you can click your mouse over a fixed window of time. The more clicks you fit into that window, the higher your score.

The default run lasts 5 seconds, but here on CPSTESTER.COM you also get 1, 2, 10, 15, 30, 60, and 100 second versions so you can train both raw burst speed and long haul stamina. Most people land somewhere between 5 and 10 clicks per second on their first few tries, and the fun part is watching that number creep up the more you practice.

How many clicks per second is fast?

Anything above 5 CPS is a solid, above average result. Get past 8 CPS and you are firmly in competitive territory. The unofficial world record sits north of 12 clicks per second held over a full 10 seconds, which is proof that there is almost always another gear if you put in the practice. Here is how the ranks shake out on CPSTESTER.COM.

1 to 3 CPSSnailWell below average
4 to 5 CPSTurtleBelow average
6 to 7 CPSRabbitAverage clicker
8 to 9 CPSCheetahAbove average
10 to 11 CPSOctopusCompetitive

How is CPS calculated?

The math could not be simpler. You take your total number of clicks and divide it by the number of seconds you spent clicking.

CPS = Total Clicks / Total Seconds

So if you click 30 times in a 5 second test, your score is 30 divided by 5, which works out to 6 CPS. Our tool does all of this for you in the background and even shows your live click rate while the timer is still running, so you always know how the run is going.

Does CPS matter in games like Minecraft?

For a lot of players this is the whole reason they are here. In Minecraft PvP a higher and more consistent click rate helps your hits land and lets you chain combos more reliably. Most servers comfortably register clicks up to around 10 to 13 CPS, so a fast and steady hand gives you a genuine advantage in a fight. The same idea applies to plenty of shooters and clicker games where rapid, repeatable inputs decide who comes out on top.

That said, raw speed is only half the story. A clean 9 CPS that you can hit every single time will usually beat a wild 13 CPS that falls apart under pressure. Practising on a timed test is the best way to build that kind of repeatable consistency.

Clicking techniques that boost your score

Most people stick with plain old single finger clicking, and that is totally fine. But if you want to push your number higher, it helps to know the other styles competitive players use. Here are the four most common ones.

Regular clicking

The everyday method most people use, one finger tapping the mouse button. It is reliable and easy to control, and it usually tops out somewhere around 6 to 8 clicks per second.

Jitter clicking

You tense your arm slightly and let the muscle vibrate so your finger taps the button very quickly. It takes practice and pushes a lot of players past 10 CPS, but it can tire your hand out fast.

Butterfly clicking

Two fingers take turns hitting the same mouse button, almost doubling your click rate. It feels strange at first, though once it clicks (pun intended) you can reach very high scores.

Drag clicking

You drag your finger across the button so friction registers many clicks at once. It works best on certain mice and is more of a party trick than a steady, repeatable method.

A quick word of caution. Jitter and drag clicking can put real strain on your hand and wrist if you overdo them, and some game servers ban drag clicking outright because it inflates your click count. Warm up first, take breaks, and stop if anything starts to hurt. No score is worth an injury.

How to improve your clicks per second

Getting faster really comes down to steady practice and a few smart habits. Use a proper gaming mouse instead of a laptop trackpad, since a light, responsive button makes a huge difference. Keep your wrist relaxed rather than tense, experiment with the techniques above to see what suits your hand, and tune your mouse sensitivity so small movements feel natural. Warming up for a minute before a serious run helps too.

The single biggest factor, though, is just showing up. Ten focused minutes a day on CPSTESTER.COM is usually enough to see real, visible gains inside a couple of weeks. Track your best score, try to beat it a little each session, and the improvement takes care of itself.

Why play the CPS test?

It is a lot more than a way to kill five minutes. A regular click speed test builds real skills you can actually use.

Sharper gaming

A faster, steadier click rate gives you a real edge in PvP titles like Minecraft, shooters, and MOBAs where every hit counts.

Better focus

Chasing a higher score trains the kind of short, locked in concentration that quietly carries over into everyday tasks.

Stress release

A few seconds of fast, mindless clicking is a surprisingly satisfying way to reset your head in the middle of a long day.

Safe and private

The whole test runs inside your browser. No downloads, no sign up, and nothing odd running in the background.

Works everywhere

A responsive layout that feels good whether you are on a desktop, a laptop, a tablet, or your phone.

Unlimited tries

Run the test as many times as you like and keep chasing your own best score, all completely free.
